Legendary, if only in their own minds, Breath & Breath are two semi-professional DJ's who have worked in radio for the past 20 years. They’ve jumped from station to station across the country never really catching on in any market. (They may have been a little too hip for radio listeners or maybe they just suck!) They’re originally from New Jersey and throughout the 90’s shared an apartment in Lodi, California while working afternoon drive time at KSAN-FM in San Diego. (KSAN was the Flagship Station of the Breath & Breath Radio Network). At that time they shared an apartment in Northern California where their landlord was Dawson who runs Lodi Court, a shabby apartment complex in Lodi, CA.
Beginning in November of 1999, the boys had been "on the road" with the Breath & Breath traveling road show. They would go to different "hot spots" around the world and send back to their listeners exciting remote broadcasts every week. Unfortunately, because of poor planning, station budgetary restrictions and malfunctioning alarm clocks, they were usually at the event a day late or a week early. (i.e. They’ve done shows from the Academy Awards while the bleachers were being set up. They attended the NHL All-Star Game 5-days before the actual event, when only the very old-timers were having a game. And they’ve frozen their butts off in Puxitany, Pennsylvania while waiting for the ground hog to show up a week early.)
During the summer of 2000, while on the road, their station was sold to Ms Wynona Moneybags, a Venture Capitalist who turned KSAN into a totally Internet based radio station. Breath & Breath, and all of their colleagues at the station, were fired. Because they were in New Jersey when this upheaval occurred, no one at KSAN knew who they were when they called in for their much-needed expense checks. They were stranded in New Jersey with no money and no way to get back to California. Furthermore, Bob had forgotten to send Dawson their rent money and she eventually rented out their apartment and had a dream-team of lawyers chasing them for back rent. (Concerned listeners were relieved to learn that during their Christmas Special, Breath & Breath’s “It’s a Wonderful Life”, Dawson was kind enough to “call off the legal dogs!”). Throughout the summer of 2000, Breath & Breath shared a humble abode in New York’s Central Park. Thanks to Sears for there over sized refrigerator boxes and with Gutter Helmet to keep them dry, the boys spent a long hot summer looking for a home base station.
Announced throughout the show, WTRR-FM 89.3 in Toms River, NJ, was one of the "many" Breath & Breath network affiliates. (The number of these affiliates is very subjective and suspiciously changes every time it’s announced). Media Mogul, Ted Landry is the owner and star personality on this very prestigious Jersey Shore Station.
In September of 2000, Breath & Breath negotiated a very lucrative contact with Mr. Landry. Currently they are hold-up at Dell’s Motel in Toms Rivers, while the tyrannical Landry has Breath & Breath jumping through hoops throughout the state to bring the best in broadcasting to the folks in Ocean County, NJ. So far, assignments for WTRR-FM include an alligator hunt in Brick Township, an eerie trip the Pine Barrens to interview the Jersey Devil for Halloween and a noisy subway ride to Shea Stadium for the Yankees/Mets 2000 World Series.
In addition to the places mentioned above, other travels include Miami, for the Elian Gonzalas situation. Veiquas, where bombs were exploding overhead, during the entire show. County Cork in Ireland to kiss the Blarney Stone on St. Paddy’s day and Bob’s physical therapist office in Atlanta while he waited for his appointment. This winter the Boys sp ent three weeks in December enjoying a frigid sojourn to the North Pole “In Search of Santa Claus.”
On June 13, 2000 Carl & his wife, Marilyn gave birth to a beautiful baby girl named Emily Ruth. The Emily Special, a celebration of the baby’s birth and Breath and Breath’s “It’s a Wonderful Life” are both available on CD, from the Breath & Breath Web Site at http://breathandbreath.tripod.com
Breath & Breath are graduates of The Bergen Community College in Paramus, NJ and possess Masters of the Obscure Reference and Non-sequiders.
The Breath & Breath Radio Show is meant to be listened to alone or in a quite place, like your car. You need to concentrate on what’s being said. It’s not like Rock Radio that can be playing in the background, it’s more in the vein of old time radio shows like Burns & Allen and Allen’s Alley…
